FIREFIGHTER REQUIREMENTS AND STARTING SALARIES:

FIREFIGHTER II $51,836

  • Includes $6,000 annual Paramedic Incentive

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of verifiable, paid, fulltime firefighting experience in the State of Texas within the last five years.
  • TCFP Structural Firefighter Basic Certification
  • TCFP Driver Operator – Pumper Certification
  • NREMT or TDSHS Paramedic/Licensed Paramedic

FIREFIGHTER I / PARAMEDIC $48,950

  • Includes $6,000 annual Paramedic Incentive

  • NREMT or TDSHS Paramedic/Licensed Paramedic

FIREFIGHTER I $42,950

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • TCFP Structural Firefighter Basic Certification
  • NREMT or TDSHS EMT-Basic, Advanced
  • At a minimum, applicants must have at least one of the above required certifications and be enrolled in a class or academy to obtain the other certification in order to be eligible.
  • All certifications must be current and verifiable before a formal offer of employment is made.

INCENTIVES:

Paramedic Hiring Incentive:                              $1,000.00 After Field Training

Paramedic Ambulance Assignment:                $25.00 Per Shift Assigned

Intermediate Firefighter:                                   $564.00 Annually

Advanced Firefighter:                                         $948.00 Annually

Master Firefighter:                                              $1,344.00 Annually

Fire and EMS CE Training

PARAMEDIC AND PRIOR MILITARY PREFERENCE:

Preference may be awarded to Paramedics and applicants enrolled in a Paramedic School.

All new employees who do not currently hold a TDSHS Paramedic/Licensed Paramedic Certification will be required to obtain this certification in accordance with Copperas Cove Fire Department Policy.

Military credit of five (5) points will be added to the overall hiring process score to those applicants who provide a DD-214 (MEMBER 4 COPY ONLY) showing type of discharge and a minimum of two (2) years of active military service at the time of application. Any discharge other than honorable discharge is not creditable.  Points will only be awarded to applicants after they have passed the Written Exam, EMS Scenario and Physical Ability Course.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:

All applicants who receive a Formal Offer of employment with the Copperas Cove Fire Department shall meet the
residency requirements per Personnel Policy No. 140, On-Call, Call Back and Response Times.

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATIONS:

Any of the following may disqualify an applicant from further consideration at any stage of the process:

  1. Having a conviction for, being under indictment for, or currently charged with any felony offense or any offense involving family violence.
  2. Having a conviction for a Class A misdemeanor or on court-ordered community supervision or probation for a Class A misdemeanor within the last five (5) years from the date of application.
  3. Having a conviction for a Class B misdemeanor or on court-ordered community supervision or probation for a Class B misdemeanor within the last two (2) years from the date of application.
  4. Currently being on probation or any court-ordered community supervision for any criminal offense.
  5. Within two (2) years preceding date of application, have illegally used marijuana.
  6. Within five (5) years preceding the date of application, having illegally used any controlled substance or dangerous drug other than marijuana.
  7. Having illegally furnished or sold any controlled substance or dangerous drug to another person.
  8. During the five (5) year period preceding the date of application, a driver’s license suspension for: driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain financial responsibility.
  9. Having been discharged from military service with a dishonorable discharge; or a general discharge indicating: (A) bad conduct; or (B) any other characterization indicating bad character.
  10. Having been removed from a Copperas Cove Fire Department hiring process in the Polygraph Phase or the Fire Chief Interview within six (6) months from the most recent date of application.

The Fire Chief has the authority to grant a waiver to any of the above disqualifiers based on the circumstances surrounding the event.
