About Fire Prevention
The Office of Prevention is responsible for three (3) main support areas of the fire department, and gets its authority from the adopted Fire Code and from City ordinances.
 Fire Inspections
 Fire Investigations
 Public Education

Fire Inspections:
Works closely with the City Building Department to ensure that all new buildings meet the requirements of the 2015 International Fire Code and the City Code of Ordinances. This includes all permitting and plans review associated with new construction and alterations/remodeling. Additionally, performs all acceptance test inspections on fire suppression systems, life safety systems, alarms systems, and Certificate of Occupancy Inspections. And finally, inspections are conducted in commercial businesses. These efforts provide the citizens with a reasonable level of comfort knowing that the building is safe for you to occupy.

Fire Investigations:
The Fire Marshal is charged by city ordinance to investigate the cause, origin, and circumstances of all fires within the city in which property has been destroyed. For all fires that are determined to be incendiary (arson) or suspicious, the Fire Marshal will coordinate with the Fire Chief, or the Fire Chief’s designee, provided they are a licensed peace officer under the laws of the state of Texas to conduct a full investigation of the fire and determine if there is sufficient evidence to charge any person with the crime of arson.

Public Education: Responsible for spreading the message about fire and life safety to the Copperas Cove community. The Fire Marshal develops and implements programs that teach children and adults about fire safety and emergency prevention. This is accomplished through station tours as well as public appearances and demonstrations. On-going programs include the citizens Fire Academy and Fire Prevention Week activities.

The Deputy Chief of Prevention’s Office is located at Central Fire Station, 415 S. Main Street. Hours of operation are 8 am until 5 pm, Monday through Friday; closed weekends and holidays.
