Solid Waste Residential

The goal of the Solid Waste Residential Division is to work as a team to provide customer friendly solid waste services in a safe and professional manner, at a competitive rate for residential customers of Copperas Cove.

The Solid Waste Residential Division assists in ensuring the public health and safety of the community by providing once a week automated garbage collection of residential garbage to all single and multi-family residences. Through the provision of timely, consistent, high quality service at a reasonable cost, the appearance and quality of life in the community is enhanced, contributing to the creation and maintenance of a healthy, esthetically pleasing environment.

Automated Collection System
The City of Copperas Cove is divided into eight (8) collections areas. Each of these areas has an assigned garbage collection day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Standard weekly services that are included in the monthly garbage fee are:

Once per week collection of garbage/rubbish placed in the City provided roll-out container(s) placed on the address side of the residence.
Per Collection schedule brush, up to 8 cubic yards, is free. The fee is $6.77 per cubic yard for brush in excess of the allowed 8 cubic yards. Brush must be placed on the address side of the residence. See the Brush & Bulk page for more information.
Per collection schedule yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, or shrub trimmings) placed in authorized biodegradable Kraft bags only and placed on the address side of the residence (no limit).
Per collection schedule accepted recyclables in container placed on the address side of the residence (see recycle Division page for accepted items).

Where Should I Put My Container on Collection Day?
The container is to be placed on the addressed side of the residence at least four (4) feet away from any obstacle and not under low hanging limbs or power lines. If you have more than one container, please leave a four (4) foot separation between containers. On streets with curb and gutter set the container in the gutter with the wheels against the curb. If there is no curb and gutter put the container at the edge of the pavement with the wheels and handle facing toward the residence.

Available Container Sizes
National surveys show that the storage space available in the containers is more than adequate for the average household. One 96-gallon container equals three 32-gallon containers. If a citizen requires more capacity, an additional container is available. An additional monthly fee of $22.36 will be added to a resident’s utility bill. However, those experiencing problems are encouraged to place recyclable items at curbside for collection.

What if I Have Extra Bags of Trash?
Bag all of the extra trash in plastic bags not larger than 33 gallons in capacity. Secure the top and set them near your trash container. The driver will reload the extra trash into the container up to twice per collection day at a rate of $5.07 per reload.

Collection Schedule
Once a week, on the designated collection day for your neighborhood, City trucks will collect household garbage and waste in curbside carts. Per collection schedule, City trucks will collect recyclables, yard waste, and large bulky items.

Collection schedules for holidays will be announced through local publications and through news media. The City’s general schedule for holiday collection observes the following eleven holidays:
New Year’s Day
Martin Luther King Day
President’s Day
Good Friday
Memorial Day
Fourth of July
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veteran’s Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

If your regular collection day falls on a Holiday, your collection for all services (garbage, recyclables, yard waste, and large bulky items) will be the next day following the holiday. All other collection days after the holiday will be a day later, during the remainder of the holiday week.

What Kind of Refuse Can I Put In My Container?
Residents place typical household garbage in the container. In order to keep your container clean; we encourage residents to use plastic bags. Trash collected in bags helps control odors, maintain cleanliness, and helps to prevent trash from being scattered about by the wind during the collection process. We recommend that you wash out the interior of the container from time to time. Grass clippings and leaves are NOT allowed in the container, but should be placed in biodegradable Kraft bags. Other items not allowed in the containers are solvents, flammable liquids, hot coals or ashes, brush, lumber, rocks, dirt, brick, building materials, demolition materials, other construction items, dead animals, or dead animal waste.
